Unaccountability merging with zero consequences

Unaccountability merging with zero consequences

When unconscious incompetence remains unaccountable, ineptness becomes the organization's foundation.

One of the dilemmas of poorly managed organizations is that employees become disengaged and demotivated as they witness their unaccountable leaders who continuously escape the consequences of their poor decisions.

That dilemma is real, regardless of the fantasy in the leaders' minds.

“Beware, not to fall victim to the lies others convince you of yourself.”

I wrote that Rayism, as a warning to the younger generation, as I witness older folks blindly complementing and pandering to them. Sadly, many older folks should take note of that warning as well.

All organizations on journeys towards relevance will experience this unconscious incompetence. However, all leaders choose to either ensure accountability or ignore it. It is also important that consequences are embedded in accountability.

When disruptions become ruptures, everyone in the organization expects accountability and consequences. Leaders who attempt to hide reality are only fooling themselves.

Leaders must understand that the teams they lead are eager to help, as long as they are not alone in bearing the consequences.

Unfortunately, all industries will witness unaccountability with zero consequences, especially within disrupted industries or businesses.

Sometimes, the disingenuous pandering as poor leaders are replaced speaks loudly to the teams. I get it, no one wants to kick someone publicly as they are forced out the door.

However, there should be a limit to glorifying failure when the failure was well witnessed. Or worse, the leader’s failures cost the team real dollars, e.g., bonuses or, in some cases, equity that becomes valueless.

Leaders who don’t understand that I believe are not strong enough to navigate true transformation, as the teams they lead don’t see a leader; they see unaccountability merging with zero consequences.

Over the last many years, I have been vocally critical of the nonsense regarding the obsession with rewarding without merit.

Meritless pandering is what starts the cracking in the foundations holding up accountability. Unchecked, these cracks destroy the foundation, bringing down what always was or what became a facade.
